Q. I am a foreign student. What are the requirements to pursue my undergraduate studies at TUAT?
A.
Foreign applicants can apply through the "Special Admissions for Privately Financed Foreign Students". A high level of Japanese is required as most of the classes are offered in Japanese.
Applicants must fulfill ALL 4 of the requirements below to be eligible:
(1)Must not possess Japanese nationality
(2)Must fit in at least one of the following conditions:
a. Concluded or are expected to conclude their 12-year basic education at their home country by March of the academic year they are applying for. Prospective graduates should hold a certificate of expected graduation which should be recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
b. Possess an International Baccalaureat (IB) degree
c. Possess a Abitur degree
d. Possess a French Baccalaureate degree
※(2) b, c and d applicants must be 18 years by March 31st of the year they plan to start their studies.
(3)Must take the "Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)" as follows:
a. Faculty of Agriculture applicants: Test must be taken in Japanese language
b. Faculty of Engineering applicants: Test can be taken in either Japanese or English languages.
c. Japanese Language and Mathematics (Course II) are mandatory.
d. For Science, the designated subjects vary (two subjects between Physics, Chemistry and Biology) according to the department applied for.
(4)Must take TOEFL or TOEIC exams as follows:
a. Faculty of Agriculture applicants: Score higher than 470 in TOEFL PBT, 52 inTOEFL iBT or 500 in TOEIC
b. Faculty of Engineering applicants: No requirements of a minimum score, but must possess either TOEFL (PBT or IBT) or TOEIC certificates.
Acceptance to TUAT under this system depends on the sum of the following scores, totalling 1,000 points:
a. EJU exams (200 points for Japanese, 200 points for Mathematics, 200 points for Science);
b. TUAT's Japanese Language Test (200 points);
c. TUAT's interview results (200 points)

Entrance examination and application forms vary among faculties and graduate schools. Please check faculties/graduate school of your choice, and contact its administrative office for the information.
Contact InformationQ. How much is the cost of living?
A.
According to TUAT student survey 2012, the average monthly expense for international students was JPY 100,000 to 110,000. This monthly expense includes housing, food, electricity/heating, research/books, transportation expenses.
Q. What is the language of instruction?
A.
Undergraduate courses are basically offered in Japanese (with exception of short term exchange programs such as STEP and AIMS Programs).Courses offered in English can be confirmed through SPICA's Syllabus System.

AIMS Program
Inbound (ASEAN students)
Q. What language will the courses be taught?
A.
In principle, all courses under AIMS Program will have to be taught in English. However, you may have the option to take course to learn the Japanese language and culture.
Q. Cost of Air ticket, how do I secure air ticket?
A.
Please ask the department responsible for AIMS Program at your home university (usually it's the International Office).
Q. Do I need health insurance?
A.
All participants are expected to carry comprehensive health insurance during their stay in AIMS Program. Please ask your respective host university to confirm the validity of your health insurance. In addition, it is mandatory to enter health insurance policy at Japanese university for the duration of your stay. This is the most recommended option as Japanese hospitals will quickly recognize patients with local Japanese Health Care memberships.
Q. Living Allowance, do we receive allowance to pay for daily expenses during the 15 weeks?
A.
You may be given allowance from your home university. Please double check if you are eligible to receive this allowance and the amount before coming to Japan.
Q. Do I have to prepare for any expenses during the 15 weeks stay?
A.
Yes, your basic expenses such as lunch meals and private expenses.
NOTE: Home universities are responsible for living allowance for its students provided that they are eligible for financial support to attend our AIMS program. See your home university office in charge for details.
Q. Do I need money before entering Japan?
A.
Yes, you will need to have some pocket money for airport transfer (about \3,000 to \4,000) and emergencies. Your host university will suggest a few airport transfer alternatives and you will receive orientation upon arriving at your accommodation.
Q. How much for daily transportation?
A.
Most accommodation will be nearby the campus (Fuchu for Agriculture students, Koganei for Engineering students). Where commute is necessary your host university will provide further details.
Q. I have dual citizenship and I am a Japanese national studying in Malaysia, can I apply?
A.
No, this program is designed to give the opportunity to ASEAN citizens to experience Japanese education and Japanese nationals will be expected to enter university the regular Entrance System. You will also encounter Visa problem as Japan will not issue "Student Visa" to anyone with Japanese Nationality.
Q. Clothing, what do I have to prepare?
A.
This program is scheduled for September - January. You will experience the end of Summer (20-27 degrees Celsius), Autumn (9-20 degrees Celsius) and beginning of Winter (2-10 degrees Celsius) so we advise you to bring warm clothes or extra money to buy them here.
Q. How do I get to my host university?
A.
No problem, Host universities will be responsible for airport pick up of students. You will be given further instructions after the selection process.

Your respective home university coordinator office will advise where to buy "international health and travel insurance". You will need an internationally recognized health insurance in case of accidents or serious injury.

A.
Before leaving Japan, your home university will provide specifics on this matter.

A.
Yes, your basic expenses such lunch meals and private expenses.

Q. How much for daily transportation?
A.
Most accommodation will be on campus or nearby, where commute is necessary your host university will provide further details.
Q. Clothing, what do I have to prepare?
A.
This program is scheduled for September - December 2014. You will experience Summer weather in most ASEAN cities, approximately 25-39degrees Celsius. Check the temperature of your host city beforehand.
Small advice: mosquito spray and insect spray are absolutely necessary!
Q. How do I get to my host university?
A.
Host universities will be responsible for airport pick up of students. Your home office will communicate further instructions after the selection process.
