Courtesy Visit to Institute of Agriculture of the Deputy Director General of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences

On Monday, March 3, Robert Marusak, Deputy Director General of Forestry and Wood Sciences at Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, with whom the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague has concluded an exchange agreement, paid a courtesy visit to Institute of Agriculture, including Councilors Ryo Funada, Institute of Agriculture Ryo Funada, Hirotaka Saito, Atsushi Chitose, and Tomomi Tanaka, as well as Institute of Agriculture Faculty Member in the field of forestry and timber introduced the two universities, and there was a lively exchange of opinions on the possibility of future collaboration.
The Czech University of Life Sciences was founded in 1906 and has around 1800 faculty members, of which more than 700 are professors and Associate Professor, and is ranked 64th in the world and 3rd in the Czech Republic in the 2024 QS World University Rankings in the field of agricultural and forest sciences. The Faculty celebrated its 105th anniversary last year and is the oldest Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences in the Czech Republic. The road to the establishment of the faculty was not easy due to the political and historical background of the country, but it is now a leading institution in forest and timber research and industry in the Czech Republic.
Prof. Yoshiki Horikawa (Cellulose), Ryota Kose Associate Professor (Cellulose Nanofibers), and Associate Professor Dongsu Choi (Reforestation by Fungi) introduced their research topics.
After that, they visited a plant factory, and at the luncheon, in addition to introducing the research results of Associate Professor Katsushige Shiraki and Keisuke Ando Associate Professor, they exchanged opinions on the future mutual acceptance and joint research between students and Faculty Member of the two universities.
This courtesy visit and the inter-university exchange agreement are expected to further develop the collaboration between TUFS and the Czech University of Life Sciences.
